School History
Initial Development
Built on 25 beautiful acres, ground was first broken for R. Bruce Wagner Elementary in July 2001. We first opened our doors to students on August 7, 2002 and have since grown into a dedicated school focused on learning, thinking, communicating…together.
Our school is named after the former West Area Assistant Superintendent of Polk County. Mr. Wagner served the boys and girls of Lakeland for 38 years. Sadly, Mr. Wagner passed away on August 19, 2013. He was a dedicated educator who was a teacher, coach, guidance counselor, elementary school principal, high school principal. Mr. Wagner retired in 1990 after nearly 40 years of service to the education of children in the public schools of Polk County.
